DOST Region 02 joined the weeklong festivity of San Mateo, Isabela with the year’s theme “Boosting the Mungbean Industry thru S&T-based Innovation in Region 02”, May 7, 2018.
In his message, Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, regional director, inspired San Mateoñians and challenged them to produce innovations out of munggo aside from munggo based food products.
In 2016, DOST Region 02 pilot-tested the effectivity of Carrageenan Technology or Carrageenan Plant Food Supplement in Mungbean and recorded an increased yield of 86.42% compared to the traditional farming practices.
This year, another demo farm will be tested for the evaluation of the effects of inoculants, fertilizer, and oligo-carrageenan on the production of cropping cycle of Mungbean.
Also, LGU San Mateo received two Portasols, multipurpose grains solar speed drying trays, from the department. DOST Region 02 team will further study the effectivity of the said invention in mungbean.
Other services of DOST were showcased in the exhibit dubbed “Balatong Village” along with programs of DOST Institutes like DOST-PCAARRD, etc.
