GAMU, Isabela – DOST PSTC Isabela presents DOST-developed waste plastic recycling technology, Styro/Plastic Densifier, to LGUs in Region 2. It was presented during Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) Region 2’s quarterly meeting of Regional Ecology Center and training-workshop on the formulation of Solid Waste Management Plan and Safe Closure & Rehabilitation Plan.

The Styro/Plastic Densifier involves conversion of post consumer waste polystyrene, commonly known as styropor packaging materials, into rigid functional products. The same equipment can be used for plastic sando bags but with a different proportion of raw material (styropor or plastic) to used cooking oil.

The densifier works on the principle of an oven with gadgets to control temperature and emission of smoke. The melted material is then poured into molds for the varied products like pots/planters, cat-walks tiles, simulated lumber/wall tiles, table/armchair tops, etc.
