CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela – The Department of Science and Technology thru its Provincial Science and Technology Center in Isabela promoted its programs and projects to elementary and secondary students all over region 2 during the Regional Schools Press Conference here.

About 220 participants on Science and Technology Writing learned the different programs and projects DOST can offer to the citizenry. Ms. Angel Gorospe, Science Research Specialist II of PSTC Isabela, talked about their banner program – SETUP, Food Innovation Center, E-trike CharM project, Carrageenan Plant Food Supplement, Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology, among others.

Participants were also given a chance to ask questions regarding the details of the programs and projects presented so that they can develop their lead and story for their articles.

The Regional Schools Press Conference is an annual clash of talents of elementary and secondary schools in various contested events like News Writing, Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Cartooning, TV Broadcasting, and Science and Technology Writing. With 3,000 participants from the different contested events, only the top three in each category will qualify to the National Schools Press Conference.

The National Schools Press Conference (NSPC) is the highest competition for journalism for both private schools and public elementary enacted thru the Republic Act 7079 also known as Campus Journalism Act of 1991. The press conference includes both students from the elementary and secondary level and is usually held on the month of February.

The journalism contest starts with the Division Schools Press Conference (DSPC), where the top three to seven in each category depending on the size of the certain region qualifies to the Regional Schools Press Conference (RSPC), and from which the top three will be chosen to represent their respective regions in the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC).
