The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 02 in collaboration with the University of the Philippines Diliman and Isabela State University Phil-LiDAR 2 turned-over local maps to Provincial and Municipal Local Government Units (P/MLGUs) on May 30, 2017 in Isabela State University (ISU) Echague Campus.
During the opening program, Engr. Marcelo G. Miguel, Provincial Science and Technology Director of DOST-PSTC Isabela reiterated the significance of these maps in the decision making of our local leaders especially on land use planning, resource allocation, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
We should seize this opportunity and deliver our full cooperation to achieve a successful end-result on this project which can optimistically lead to attaining sustainable development in the long run. And may we fully utilize these maps to attain its purpose of providing rational decisions involving our resources for a greener future”, PD Miguel said on his speech.
The Phil-LiDAR 2 Program aimed to produce detailed resource maps using LiDAR for the production of high value crops, irrigation assessment, aquaculture production, forest protection, and discovery of renewable energy sources.
Dr. Ricmar Aquino, ISU President, Dr. William C. Medrano, ISU Vice President, and SP Napoleon Hernandez of Isabela expressed their gratitude and full support to the Phil-LiDAR 2 Program.

Moreover, UP Diliman Phil-LiDAR 2 technical staff including Engr. Homer Pagkalinawan, Engr. Bryan Baltazar, and Engr. David Jess Ecal presented the Overview on the Phil-LiDAR 2 Program and headed the Capability-building Workshop for LGU Map Recipients.
All five (5) PLGUs of Cagayan Valley namely Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, and Quirino, 13 MLGUs in Cagayan, 12 MLGUs in Isabela, and 2 MLGUs in Qurino were recipients of these local maps.
