DOST R02 conducts Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE) in Cagayan Valley Region

CAUAYAN CITY, ISABELA – The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office 02 (DOST R02) thru the Technology Application and Promotions Institute (TAPI) conducted a Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE) in Cagayan Valley Region on August 15-17, 2017 held at ISU Cauayan Campus Gymnasium, Cauayan City, Isabela. This was participated by 108 entries from various local inventors, researchers, SUCs, and High Schools.
RICE, an event conducted once every two years lead by DOST thru TAPI, was meant to give recognition to the best researches and innovations in the region. In addition, RICE aimed to promote the Science and Technology programs and incentives for our local inventors and researchers.

During the opening program, Engr. Sancho A. Mabborang, Regional Director of DOST R02, reiterated the efforts of DOST in bridging the gaps for Science and Technology to emerge in the country, starting primarily in the youth.
“The only way that we can sustain development is to start the development in the countryside, in the classroom rather. Naniniwala din kami na ang ating engineers at inventors ay kailangang magsimula sa murang edad. Students should start doing R and D during elementary stage palang”, Engr. Mabborang said.
This was seconded by Engr. Edgar I. Garcia, Director of TAPI, who focused on the younger generation given that there were various student participants for the event. On his message, he said that “To start with creating an innovative community, we [should] start first with our younger generation. And changing the mindset of our children to become innovative is one approach that we could start with”.
“We should encourage them because they are our future inventors and innovators”, Engr. Garcia added.

Dr. Ricmar P. Aquino, President of the Isabela State University, Dr. Precila C. De Lima, Campus Executive Officer of ISU Cauayan Campus, and Mr. Francisco Pagayon, President and Chief Executive of the Filipino Inventors Society Producer Cooperative (FISPC), were also present to grace the event.
The Board of Judges for this regional event consist of Engr. Emmanuel M. Mendoza, Chairman, and Ms. Amancia B. Magusib and Mr. Raymond Mark R. Doran as members.

The awarding ceremony took place on August 18, 2017 during the closing program of the 2017 Regional Science and Technology Week of DOST R02 held at FL Dy Coliseum, Cauayan City, Isabela.
