Participants and trainers during the ReDMIS and ExMIS Software Deployment and End-user Training held at ISU Biazon Hostel, ISU-Main Compund, Echague, Isabela on December 14-15, 2017

The Department of Science and Technology Region 02 (DOST R02), together with Isabela State University (ISU), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), and Cagayan Valley Agricultural and Aquatic Resources Research and Development (CVAARRD) conducted a training on Research and Development Management Information System (ReDMIS) & Extension Management Information System (ExMIS) Software Development on December 14-15, 2017 at ISU Biazon Hostel, ISU-Main Compound, Echague, Isabela.

The training was composed of 50 participants from various ISU Campuses, National Government Agencies (NGAs), and Local Government Units (LGUs). This was held to encourage SUCs, NGAs, LGUs, and other agencies to adopt the two (2) software using the University Research and Extension Management Information System (UREMIS) Platform which could improve the data management of Research & Development (R&D) and Extension Programs, Projects, and Activities (PPAs).

The UREMIS is a platform that automates information system for the organized compilation, processing and dissemination of research & extension outputs in accordance with the exemplified procedures of the research & extension unit of the university. With the use of this platform along with its two (2) software components, monitoring and evaluation of R&D and Extension PPAs can be facilitated by researchers through online reporting & remote monitoring.

Thus, this platform intends to improve the maintenance of document holdings in respective offices. Also, this intends to provide cost-effective and worthwhile professional development in the workplace wherein the office personnel may improve their technical skills, increase office productivity, and acquire new learning culture that could applied to R&D and Extension PPAs.

During the opening program, Dr. William Medrano reiterated in his message that “One of the weakest point in research management in practically all the SUCs and all the private universities is the monitoring and evaluation of R&D Activities as well as Extension Activities”. He also emphasized the assistance of DOST R02 in the development of such software and platform. “Our Regional Director of DOST is an IT Expert himself and knows the very importance of such software so he committed immediately to finance this training”, Dr. Medrano said. Considering the importance of this platform, DOST R02 instantly funded this training under the Grants-in-Aid (GIA) Program of the agency.

The training was concluded with an agreement that the software would be free and available for everyone within Cagayan Valley Region. Special functions may also be requested depending on the usability and compatibility with the requesting party’s procedure and mandates.
