The Department of Science and Technology Region 02 (DOST R02) in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of Dinapigue, Isabela conducted a 2-day Science and Technology Caravan (S&T Caravan) in Dinapigue, Isabela on April 6-7, 2017. With the theme “Science for the People”, the activity aimed to raise public’s awareness and appreciation of DOST Programs and Services, develop possible partnership with local stakeholders, and establish relevant S&T projects in Cagayan Valley. This served as an appropriate venue to introduce the department’s thrusts and programs to local stakeholders and prospective SMEs in the region.
During the opening program, Hon. Reynaldo D. Derije, Municipal Mayor, extended his appreciation to the S&T Team for conducting such activity. “Salamat dahil kahit may kalayuan ang aming lugar ay dumayo parin kayo”, he said, knowing that Dinapigue is one of the far-flung municipalities within the Province of Isabela.
The technology fora revolved on the discussion of DOST Plans and Programs, Regional Standard and Testing Laboratory (RSTL), S&T Scholarship, Deployment of Early Warning Device (DEWS), RxBox and e-HATID, STARBOOKS, CEST Project, Food Innovation Center (FIC), Ceramic Water Filter, and Packaging and Labeling.
Afterwhich, series of Training on Food Processing specifically Tocino, Embutido, Peanut Butter, Peanut Brittle, Coconut Water Vinegar, Coco Burger, Bukayo, Virgin Coconut Oil, Fish Jerky, and Fish Siomai was actively participated by the Women’s Organization in Dinapigue, Isabela.
One-on-one consultation with SMEs and researchers on Intellectual Property, Industry dialogue with MSMEs on Packaging and Labeling, FIC and RSTL services, and Validation of CEST Site in Barangay Dibulo were also conducted by the S&T Team.
The caravan was concluded having high hopes that the S&T team had instilled awareness and appreciation of DOST programs & projects among the locals of Dinapigue, which could lead to a strengthened S&T partnerships to establish networks to SMEs and LGU of Dinapigue, Isabela.
