Norman Sanchez, quiz bee coach, said that the secret of their victory is their review of Science and Math concepts uploaded in the digital library of DOST, the Super STARBOOKS.
“I led the kids in reviewing concepts on science and math most especially in the DOST e-library, Super STARBOOKS”, said Sanchez.
“It was really fun. Nakaka-excite ‘yung fact na we are competing with different schools in Region II. Nakakakaba din siya pero iniisip na lang namin ‘yung pride and honor na maibibigay namin sa school,” Montero, one of the quiz bee participants, added.
Super Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station or simply Super STARBOOKS is a digital library patented under the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII) that revolutionizes the conventional libraries in academic institutions. August 2016, DOST-STII awarded the Super STARBOOKS to Santiago City Schools including other DepEd Isabela schools that paved way to be of great help to Santiago City schools’ victory during the Regional quiz bee.
Cagayan National High School landed 2nd place and Regional Science High School got 3rd place for the Secondary level while Malasin Elementary School in Cagayan and Saint Louis School landed 2nd and 3rd place respectively for the elementary level.
Regional Science and Technology Week included activities like the Regional Invention Contests and Exhibits (RICE), IP forum, Integrated Science and Math quiz, S&T Bazaar and Garden Exhibits.
“We celebrate the National Science and Technology Week annually to showcase the services and products of our scientists, engineers, researchers, inventors, and innovators,” said DOST Sec. Fortunato T. de la Peña.
“This year’s theme is ‘Science for the People,’ and we highlight the practical use of various technological products and research outputs,” he added.
The awarding ceremony was held at F.L Dy coliseum with Sec. Fortunato T. Dela Peña of the Department of Science and Technology being the guest speaker.
